Who Is John Karavas?

John Karavas is a Vietnam Era veteran who came to Connecticut in 1968. He graduated with honors, from the University of New Haven with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, majoring in Economics.

First working as a financial analyst for a New Haven based investment firm, John later joined Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as a business insurance sales agent. Subsequently he became an independent insurance agent and continued that career for 36 years.

In 2008 John decided to set aside his work within the insurance business and develop a new career in the mortgage industry.

John works with a team of mortgage specialists who offer a full breath of mortgage products from traditional residential, to investmant apartments to the financing of health care properties. John has developed a passion for working with seniors and personally specializes as a Reverse Mortgage Consultant showing senior home owners how they can safely "tap" into the equity of their owned home for financial shortfall relief either for refinance purposes or new/replacement home purchases.

Some examples of what John has accomplished with senior home owner clients include:

  • Saving a senior's home from being foreclosed upon because she could no longer pay the mortgages she took out to help her children.
  • Preserving a  middle income couple's retirement fund which was being depleted in order to meet their daily living expense.
  • Assisted the ability of grandparents to send two of their grandchildren to college.
  • Helped a senior homeowner payoff a sizable credit card obligation incurred when the spouse was ill and insurance did not reimburse the full cost incurred.  She can now finally hear the telephone ring without any fear of a collection agent being on the other end.
  • Created a resource of funds to help a gentleman who is living at the age of 104 and just plain ran out of money.
  • Assisted a homeowner who needed money to do some repairs on her home and payoff  back taxes.
  • Created funds for a son to buy out his sister's share of the family home from the last to die parent's estate.
  • Established an additional cash resource for a family to help pay for home health care for one of their parents.
  • And many,, many more...
All of the above circumstances, by using an FHA insured reverse mortgage, was accomplished without creating a monthly payback obligation.
