John Karavas is a Vietnam Era veteran who came to Connecticut in 1968. He graduated with honors, from the University of New Haven with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, majoring in Economics.

 

First working as a financial analyst for a New Haven based investment firm, John later joined Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as a business insurance sales agent. Subsequently he became an independent insurance agent and continued that career for 36 years.

 

In 2008 John decided to set aside his work with insurance clients and focus on working as a mortgage resource offering the same business principals that guided him through his 36 year insurance career -always placing the interest of the client first. 

 

Partnering with a Traditional Mortgage team John is a resource for Traditional New Home Purchases and Refinancing Clients.  John also spends a lot of his time working with senior home owners with limited cash flow to determine if it is in their best interest to access their brick and stick home equity and convert it into a line-of credit resource by way of a home equity mortgage with no installment payment obligations.
 

As of the first of 2009, in addition to being a refinance tool for senior home owners, the same reverse mortgage transaction can also be used by seniors to purchase a home.

 

John is also active in the Hamden Rotary Club (President 2009-‘10); a past two term president of the Stratford Chapter of Business Network International; former  volunteer at the Yale International Office of Students and Scholars; a member of the CT Amber Alert Steering Committee; a member of the Board of Directors - Paier College of Art; committee member, Home Front Fund Raising Committee – raising money for homeless veterans; and the Chair Person of the Board of Advisor's, Salvation Army, New Haven Citadel.
